According to the legend, the Botos (purpoises) that live in the Amazon river have a special enchantment, especially when night time starts. They become tall, strong, handsome men looking for pretty women to have a date. They go to parties where they dance, drink and flirt, acting like a normal guy. Before morning comes, they go back to the rivers, as their enchantment only lasts during nightime and become botos again.

Cuca´s Group

starterb.jpg

Cuca is a kind of a witch that looks like a big, green alligator and is constantly doing bad things with its witchery such as scaring children and playing tricks on them. There´s a popular lullaby in Brazil that says, Sleep little baby or Cuca will come by which we should say here is not scary to children at all!
Cuca became a character of our popular children author Monteiro Lobato, and in the picture above you can see Cuca with Aunt Nastácia, a good hearted old lady on a popular children TV series called Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo (Yellow Woodpecker´s Ranch).
The series is popular again with different actors and actresses and it´s most Brazilian children a favorite.

starterb.jpg

Iara is half fish and half woman. This is another common legend from the Amazon region. According to researchers, this legend started among the indians and became part of the life from the people who live in the villages nearby, where most of the people who live there are indian descendants, or very much connected to the indian culture.
The legend says that the men used to be attracted by the incredible beauty of Iara, a gorgeous indian woman, with long black hair and a scultural body singing magical songs she would take the men deep into the river water where her kingdom could be found. Besides her enchanting voice and her beauty, by coming out of the water she would take the human form of a pretty woman.
